How Can I Work Skillfully With So Many Different People?

No matter what position you hold in your organization, chances are your relationships are “all over the map” from the standpoint of productivity. Even the productive ones can be challenging at times. The good news is that you can build dynamic and healthy relationships, and sustain those that already exist. Many of the ways you interact in your relationships are attributable to your patterns of behavior. You influence people based on the positive or negative impact of those behaviors. Quite often, you are not even aware that the impact you have is very different from what you intended.

As Sherri Malouf, President of SMS, says:

“Authentic influence is like breathing – it is oxygen for relationships.”

No truer words have been spoken! Whether it is your boss, peer, direct report, stakeholder, customer, or even a family member, your chances of successfully building that critical relationship, while accomplishing your objectives, are greatly increased through the use of positive influence. Have you ever wondered why people aren’t listening to you, or why you can’t motivate that one direct report, or better yet, why your boss is resistant no matter what you do? Look to yourself and ask, “Am I using the right influence style with this person?” If your intention is not having the desired impact, the likely answer is “no”.

This is where SMS can help. We can support you in exploring ways that will help you achieve your desired impact with people, and consequently will greatly contribute to your making a difference in your team, function, organization, and the community. Make Positive Power and Influence® your legacy!
